Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should be given ample time in naming his running mate, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has cautioned.
The Majority leader in an interview on Wontumi TV stated that just as Adu Boahen, former President John Agyekum Kufour and President Akufo-Addo were not pressured to name their respective running mates; Bawumia shouldn’t be subjected to needless pressure to name his.
“It is needless to say he has kept long naming his running mate. In 1992 when Adu Boahen was elected the party had short time to go for the national elections. From there Kufuor took time before naming his running mate”, he said in the interview monitored by Wontumionline.com.
On 4th November, 2023, vice President Bawumia was elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.
“He hasn’t even crossed a month and people are pressuring him to name his running mate”, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said of the development.
According to him, “the decision rests with the flagbearer” when it comes to naming his running mate for the 2024 general elections.
“Nobody gave Kufuor, Akufo-Addo and Adu Boahen pressure to name their running mate”, he said.
