Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama, has been warned by an Akyem Chief to apologize to his people for calling them ‘Sakawa Boys” or prepare to face their wrath in the coming days.
Nana Oteatuoso Kokobeng II in an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show, stated that Mr. Mahama would never be pardoned by the people of Akyem if he doesn’t come out to apologize for making and promoting those disparaging comments.
The respected Chief who is also a governance watcher noted that “This is the time to respect the people of Akyem. Never bring your dirty politics to our doorstep. You have 72 hours to come out and beg us.”
He hinted of plans to forgive the former President should he eat humble pie.
“If you apologize we will forgive you but if you don’t, we won’t pardon you and we will show you our plans for you. If you have problem with some appointees of President Akufo-Addo, say it but don’t insult the people of Akyem”, he said.
Not long ago, Nana Oteatuoso Kokobeng II dished out a litany of events that supports his claim that former President Mahama is more than a ‘Sakawa’ person.
“What is more Sakawa than the Airbus scandal? What is more Sakawa than collecting Ford car as bribe? What is more Sakawa than telling us that all the guinea fowls you were invested our moneys in has flown to Burkina Faso? What is more Sakawa than Hope City project?” were some of the questions he directed to Mr. Mahama over his ‘Sakawa Boys’ comments.
John Mahama has come under heavy attack for disrespecting the people of Akyem and labelling them as ‘Sakawa Boys’.
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is also an Akyem, has responded to the disparaging comments from his main political competitor stating that he wouldn’t disrespect any tribe in Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo in an interview at the Jubilee House with Oman fm which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, stated that the posture of the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, is divisive and one that is not befitting of a political leader.
On John Mahama’s Facebook page, he posted an article described the people from Akyem in the Eastern region as “Sakawa Boys”.
