Despite being in his grave, former General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie left behind a profound statement that would direct the party in selecting a successor for President Akufo-Addo, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the party has said.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako in an interview with Wontumionline.com stated that the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie who was referred to as Sir John, foresaw the future when he predicted that a time would come when Vice President Bawumia would elected as flagbearer for the NPP.
Before joining his ancestors, Sir John stated in one of his interviews on an Accra based radio station that “Danquah has had eight years, Busia and Kufuor have also come to serve; now where is Dombo?”
The above question which was posed by the former General Secretary for the party was in reference to the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition that defines the NPPP.
He left off by insisting that “Dombo would be represented by Bawumia” adding that “no one would even dare contest him.”
Based on the statement, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi added that the leadership of the NPP must work with the advise given and allow Vice President Bawumia to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
In a related development, Amma Busia, a member of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has stated that the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is more than qualified to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
According to her, Bawumia has been exemplary and loyal to the NPP and the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, making him the best choice as presidential candidate for the 2024 polls.
