“Cyber Attack Is Real, Protect Your Personal Identity” – Expert

The CEO of Innovare Limited and Cyber Security Consultant, C.K. Bruce has described as wrong and deadly situations where people put all their personal information on the internet space.

According to him, cyber-attacks are real but a lot can be done in order not to fall, victim.

Speaking on the theme, “Defending The Digital Lifeline”, on the MTN Bright Conversations on Tuesday, 25/10/2022, Mr. Bruce advised people not to give all their personal identity on the internet.

“Keeping PII private is important to ensure the integrity of your identity. With just a few bits of your personal information, thieves can create false accounts in your name, start racking up debt, or even create a falsified passport and sell your identity to a criminal,” he stressed.

Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is defined as: Any representation of information that permits the identity of an individual to whom the information applies to be reasonably inferred by either direct or indirect means.

Mr. Bruce was emphatic that clicking any link one sees is very detrimental to a user’s identity adding that it leads people to attackers.

“Don’t just click on anything you see out there. Some of those links are there to steal your passwords, pin codes etc,” he reiterated.

Here are the basics of PII

PII is any information that identifies an individual including the following:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Social security number
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
