Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes All-time Top Scorer In Professional Football
Cristiano Ronaldo becomes all-time top scorer in professional football.
Cristiano Ronaldo became professional football’s all-time top goalscorer with 807 goals by scoring a hat-trick in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Ronaldo’s second goal for Manchester United against Tottenham on Saturday evening saw the Portuguese break Josef Bican’s previous record of 805 goals, according to FIFA records.
The 37-year-old has now racked up 807 goals while playing for Sporting Lisbon (five goals), Manchester United (136), Real Madrid (450), Juventus (101) and the Portugal national team (115).
Ronaldo’s first goal against Tottenham came in the 12th minute when he fired a long-range strike past a helpless Hugo Lloris.
Harry Kane then equalised from the penalty spot before Ronaldo tapped the ball home after a cross by Jadon Sancho in the 38th minute.
Harry Maguire’s own goal in the 72nd minute levelled the scoreline but Ronaldo sealed his hat-trick and the three points for United with a powerful header with nine minutes remaining.
Ronaldo missed Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat by rivals City last weekend with a hip injury but he has seemingly shaken off the knock to claim another record.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick said of Ronaldo’s return from injury: “(Ronaldo) resumed for training yesterday, he trained the whole training session and I expect him to train today. I would’ve thought he was available tomorrow.
“I haven’t asked him if he’s happy at Manchester at this club, he’s fit again, resumed training yesterday and we shall see which formation we will line up with tomorrow.”
Ronaldo has scored 17 goals in 31 matches for Manchester United since rejoining the club from Juventus in the summer.
