Celebrating former first lady on Ghana’s Independence Day and not channeling the same energy in congratulating President Akufo-Addo after the Supreme Court validated his Presidency is a wrong move by Mr. John Mahama, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has said.
As Ghana marked her 64th Independence Day celebration, the 2020 defeated flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Mahama used the day to celebrate his wife’s 58th birthday and completely ignored calls on him to accept the verdict of the court by calling President Akufo-Addo just as was the case when the latter lost the 2013 election petition to him.
It is on the back of this that Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, in an interview on the Nsempa Fie show which airs on Wontumi TV noted that it would have served Mr. John Mahama some dignity if he had put in a congratulatory message to President Akufo-Addo rather than ignoring it.
“Don’t use Lordina’s birthday to delay congratulating the President. If you can write a message for her on Independence Day, then write one to the President Akufo-Addo”, the NPP Chairman known as Chairman Wontumi said.
He however continued that President Akufo-Addo doesn’t need a phone call from Mr. Mahama to validate his place as President but added that it was what courtesy required of the defeated NDC leader.
“You can decide to call or not, President Akufo-Addo remains President…Your witnesses went to court to argue about biscuits”, he said.
