Competitive Football Not My Priority – Sulley Muntari

Former Ghana international Sulley Muntari appears to be preparing to retire from football after claiming that playing competitively is not his priority at the moment.

Muntari, a free agent, says he has no plans to move abroad and will only consider playing for Ghana Premier League clubs.

The former AC Milan and Inter star left Hearts of Oak before the start of the 2022/23 season and enjoys playing with friends.

“[To play] outside (Europe), no more, I don’t want to play football anymore,” Muntari told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV as quoted by Graphic.

The 38-year-old, who won the Champions League with Inter in 2010, decided not to renew his contract with Hearts of Oak after it expired at the end of last season.

The former Liberty Professionals midfielder said he joined Hearts of Oak solely to help improve the standard of the local league.

“I only wanted to help the local league gain ground because the local league gave us a lot when we were playing. So, I wanted to give back to the local league.

“It’s not that I’m retired or not retired but I just don’t want to play [football]. I’m tired but then with friends, I train with them. If I decide to play, it will be in the local league but it’s not my priority,” he added.

Muntari won 84 caps for Black Stars and scored 20 goals between 2002 and 2014.
