Child Aged 7 Dies Of Coronavirus In Hospital As Death Toll Climbs By 728

The UK’s coronavirus hospital death toll has increased by 728 – with the youngest victim aged just seven years old.

The daily deaths figure dropped by 330 compared to the same time last week, and by 226 compared to yesterday’s total.

The young child was among the 630 patients who died in England’s hospitals.

All who lost their lives were aged between seven and 102.

All except 30, aged between 40 and 99, had known underlying health conditions.

Scotland reported 53 new deaths in the 24 hours to Thursday, Wales recorded 35, and Northern Ireland confirmed 10.

The full official figures for the UK covering deaths across all settings including care homes and the wider community will be released later today.

Today’s daily rise compared to last Thursday, when the total hospital deaths rose by 1,058, while 945 lost their lives the previous Thursday and 1,018 the one before that.

Scotland’s death toll for the entire pandemic is now 6,322.
