Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah, and former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye are among key dignitaries to grace this year’s Re-Akoto Memorial Lectures.
The 16th edition of Re-Akoto Memorial Lectures comes off on Wednesday, 28th April, 2021 and is being organized by the Ghana School of Law in partnership with the family of the late Baffour Akoto.
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto would deliver the keynote address and the theme for the event is –The kegacy of Baffour Osei Akoto: A Family Man, Chief and Stateman.
Hon Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto would be joined by Mr. Maxwell Opoku-Agyemang, acting Director of Legal Education and Ghana School of Law to light up the memorial lecture.
This year’s edition of the lecture would be held at Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Baffour Osei Akoto was a distinguished Senior Linguist of the Asante State in the 20th century.
During the launch of one of his memorial lectures in 2006, Nana Adu Gyamfi, Adontenhene and the Asokorehene of Kumasi, who deputized for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu described Baffour Osei Akoto as a man who engaged the collective attention and conscience as a nation of peace loving people.
He added that the phenomenon of Re Akoto and Others “has advised our constitutional development in the important areas of human and people’s rights, the role of chieftaincy in our national governance and its socio-economic development”.
