Census Provisional Results: Ghana’s Growth Rate Declines From 2.5% To 2.1%

Ghana has witnessed a reduction of its Growth rate from 2.5% to 2.1% as far as the 2021 Population and Housing Census provisional figures are concerned.

Speaking on Wontumi TV with Oheneba Nana Asiedu, the Executive Director of the
Population Council, Dr Leticia Appiah said it is impressive the population has increased by 6.1%.

But she was quick to ask, “is it because of the riches not giving birth, abortion rate or family planning that has made the growth rate to decline?”

She said other factors that can contribute to the decline in the growth rate are death and migration.

“Globally the growth rate is 1%  but if Ghana’s own is 2.1% then it’s something quite appreciative,”
