The Bono regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, has urged government to burn more excavators to prevent illegal mining.

Kwame Baffoe praised government stating that the decision to burn excavators would deter some Ghanaians and foreigners from engaging in illegal mining.

He admitted that initially he was against the decision to put the expensive equipment in flames but has come to a realization that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was always loud anytime government was making progress in the fight against galamsey.

“They (NDC) are holding press conferences upon press conferences ever since government intensified the fight against galamsey”, Kwame Baffoe said.

Speaking on Wontumi TV’s Nsempa Fie show, the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Abronye stated that the posture of the NDC ever since some excavators were burnt, shows that they have a lot of their members being excavators owners.

“Ever since the burning of excavators started, the NDC has been crying louder. It gives a signal that the NDC have a lot of excavators and are scared their machines would be burnt. I now believe the burning of excavators should be intensified”, Chairman Abronye said.

He explained that from day one, he personally didn’t support the idea of burning excavators and believed government could have just seized excavators and used it for other projects.

Chairman Abronye explained that the NDC had always claimed it is the NPP that brought galamsey Ghana and had expected them to rather support government’s decision to ruthlessly fight the canker.

He ended by stating that it was rather the NDC that introduced Ghanaians to illegal mining and accused their 2020 presidential candidate, former President Mahama of publicly declaring that he would promote the operations of illegal miners should he become President again.
