A release from the office of the President and signed by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development , Hon Kwasi Boateng-Agyei, on behalf of the sector Minister, has announced the termination of the appointment of Madam Mary Boatemaa Marfo as the Sekyere East District Chief Executive.’
According to the statement dated 22nd September, 2020,The revocation of Madam Boatemaa Marfo ‘s appointment takes immediate effect.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei- Mensah has meanwhile, been asked to act as the Chief Executive for the District until further notice.
The brief news release is silent on what motivated the action by government but there are speculations that the former DCE recently acted in a way that compromised the unity of the ruling party and also undermined its agenda towards retaining power in the December election.
This is the second time in less than two months that a District Chief Executive in the Ashanti Region has been sacked by the government.
Recently the Amansie South DCE William Asante Bediako who was alleged to have made a comment in which he disagreed with the President position in the fight against illegal mining was shown the exit.
Some media outlets provided a video recording in which the former DCE was captured saying at a function that “Why would I not support “galamsey”? Had it not been “galamsey”, we would not have had a storey building at Manso; had it not been “galamsey” and hardworking nature of the people of Manso, a young person from Manso would not have been able to purchase a car worth one billion Cedis”
