Bono Region: Weed smoking on the rise in Senaasi; Mmratehene vows to resist the canker

Weed smoking and other substance abuse have become rampant among the youths of Senaase, a suburb of Berekum In the Bono region which if care is not taken will lead to serious social vices in the area.

The Mmrantehene of Berekum Senaase and other stakeholders have therefore met the press to create awareness on the health and other consequences of substance abuse and how to prevent the young ones from the menace.

Speaking in an interview with Accra based Angel News, the Mrantehene of Senaase, Nana Badu Kaakyire indicated that weed smoking has become rampant among the youths and so his outfit in connection with other stakeholders must look for an immediate solution stressing that efforts are gradually on course to safeguard the up and coming ones from the deadly abuse because it will be difficult to prevent the addicted persons and so the young ones must be the target so that they will not fall victim adding that efforts are underway to go to house by house to have a word of caution to parents and the youths to desist from the act.

Dr. Frank Amankona, a medical doctor at Berekum Senasi who was also present at the program expressed worry about the uncontrollable abuse of drugs in the area and its future consequences.

He disclosed that weed smoking and substance abuse are illegal in the country and need not be entertained hence parents must advise their wards to stay away from drug and substance abuse to avoid any form of punishment when apprehended.

Chairman Alayeh, a committee member at Senasi added that plans are far advanced in the quest to fight the canker and so very soon the committee members will act accordingly. He emphasized that weed smoking and substance abuse breeds armed robbery and other social vices hence the need to fight against it.
