Black Meteors have missed out on the Olympics in the last four occasions and hopes to redeem itself by performing well in the upcoming AFCON.
They qualified for the AFCON after beating Algeria 2-1 on aggregate in the final round of qualifiers.
The GFA Communications Director, said that the team is focused on booking a place in the Olympic Games before targeting the ultimate prize at the AFCON.
“Our best team in recent times failed to qualify for the Olympic Games, and we want to make it a special project this time. First of all, we want to make it to the Olympic Games. Then we will eye the U-23 trophy in Morocco,” he said.
“It wouldn’t be easy having looked at the other teams. Morocco are very strong. Egypt have qualified as well, and I think Tanzania are also in there, but we have a good team. I also like the fact that it is a progression from the U-20 team,” he added.
The AFCON tournament will commence on June 8 and run until July 24. The Black Meteors are hoping to bounce back and perform well after narrowly missing out on the Olympics in 2019.
