The Built With Bitcoin Foundation (BWB) has inaugurated a training centre in Kumasi to educate Ghanaians especially the youth about a bitcoin circular economy.
Dubbed, “the Bitcoin Technology Center (BTC)” the space is to equip the local community with skills and knowledge within the financial technology (fintech) industry.
In a release issued by the foundation, it said the center was built as a legacy project for the just ended Africa Bitcoin Conference held in Accra early this month.
It said the facility which aimed to educate and train around 400 people in the first year would be used to teach subjects including: Financial literacy; Introduction to Bitcoin; Entrepreneurship; Introduction to computers and Introduction to coding.
“Along with regular courses, the foundation also plans to organise “Introduction to Coding” camps and host monthly meetings.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, a founder of BWB, Ray Youssef, said education was a fundamental human right, however it was not accessible to all.
That, he said created systemic issues, especially in regions like Africa, where people were fighting hard to rid themselves of what he described as an economic apartheid.
He said his outfit was committed to empowering Africans through education and strengthening communities adding that “we are ushering in a new financial dawn, welcoming more to the table and building a truly global economy.”
The Director of BWB, Yusuf Nessary, said: “Education is also a key to protecting vulnerable communities from bad actors and teaching people how bitcoin can support them and their families through entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, knowledge, and social empowerment.”
“Our mission is to amplify communities through education and this announcement is incredibly rewarding as we hope it creates a circular economy, something that can last the test of time.”
