The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase-Asokore Constituency has hailed vice President Bawumia for using what he terms “bad boy” tactics to win the New Patriotic Party several parliamentary seats in the northern part of Ghana.
In 2016, the NPP according to Dr. Nana Yaw Afriyie, won several seats in the north for the first time due to the consistency of work Dr. Bawumia did in the area.
The approach Dr. Bawumia used in 2016, was to relocate from the South to the North. “He stayed there and did all the notorious things for NDC to lose a lot of their seats”, the MP recounted.
Then in 2020, Dr. Bawumia according to Dr. Afriyie went there again to increase “the notorious acts” for NPP to claim a lot of parliamentary seats.
Giving an account of the impact Dr. Bawumia has had on the NPP’s parliamentary numbers from 2016 and 2020 respectively, Dr. Ayew Afriyie said: “When he started in North, NDC had about 28 seats and NPP had only 3.
But when he went there to do a good job, the NDC’s seats came down to 15 and NPP’s rose to 16. From 2016 to 2020, you can say he has reduced the seats the NDC have in Parliament. Currently the Walewale seat is not part of the NDC’s dream but it used to be theirs. Walewale is now for NPP and we haven’t lost that seat since he became running mate”.
