Bawumia Urges Queen Mothers To Help End Poverty, Hunger

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has admonished Queen Mothers to help fight poverty, hunger and promote good health.

He said the Queen Mothers’ role in the country’s development is enormous and should not be downplayed.

The Vice President gave the admonition during the 5th Enstoolment Anniversary Celebration of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom lll at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

He said Queen Mothers as agents of change will also contribute to the well-being of women and children.

Dr. Bawumia bemoaned that although women form a huge percentage of Ghana’s population, yet they are the poorest in society.

“Women constitute 51% of Ghana’s population but are poor in the society”, he emphasized.

He said this sad state of women has been necessitated by poverty adding that women are most excluded even in the financial sector.

Dr. Bawumia was grateful to the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III for her leadership role in tackling challenges at the grassroots.
