A former Chief Whip of the New Patriotic Party caucus in Parliament, Hon. Opare-Ansah has claimed that vice President Bawumia has succeeded in making the Northern region a stronghold of the NPP.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show, the former Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency stated that Bawumia’s ‘day light’ has penetrated the Northern part of Ghana and increased the votes of the NPP there.
“Some time ago when I was the Chief Whip, our MPs from the Northern region who joined our caucus were 4 in number. Out of 31 seats, the NDC had 27 seats. Today with Doctor (Bawumia) the old northern region, the NPP has 16 seats and the NDC has 15 seats. It all happened when he was running mate”, he said.
He continued the vice President Bawumia, has succeeded in demolishing the NDC’s stronghold in the Northern region.
“If we give him the flagbearer slot and he leads us, what can the NDC say again? They used to say the NPP is Akan party and go to the Zongo and say the NPP don’t like Muslims. If Doctor becomes our flagbearer they can’t say that again”, he added.
