Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday morning filed his nomination form for the December 7, 2024 presidential election.
He was the first aspirant to personally submit his presidential nomination form to the Electoral Commission for this year’s elections.
He was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia, and running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh along with his wife Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh.
Dr. Bawumia was supported by key NPP leaders including National Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa highlighted the unprecedented nature of the submission, thanking Dr. Bawumia and confirming that a review of the forms would begin immediately.
“This is the first time that a sitting vice president has personally presented his nomination form to the Electoral Commission,” she said.
In his remarks, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the NPP’s dedication to a peaceful electoral process and urged continued support for the Commission as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
“For me, it is personally a very historic opportunity to submit these forms for the first time as a presidential candidate,” he said.
“Historically, I think Ghana is in a very envious position as far as the conduct of elections is concerned and I believe that Madam Chair and your team will live up to it. But let’s continue to pray for God’s blessings for the EC and also pray for God’s blessings for the New Patriotic Party, myself and my team so that we will emerge victorious in this elections,” he added.
