Fantana’s mum, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, is close to losing her seat as Member of Parliament for the Jomoro constituency in the Western Region due to an onging court case.
Dorcas, who won her seat in the 2020 elections, has been accused of holding dual citizenship of Ghana and Ivory Coast.
Per the laws of Ghana, any person in possession of another country’s passport aside Ghana is not qualified to serve as a representative of the people of Ghana.
Such an individual must renounce their citizenship of the 2nd country before contesting as a member of Parliament in Ghana.
Dorcas Affo-Toffey has been accused of holding dual Ivorian citizenship and refusing to renounce her Ivorian citizenship as per the laws of Ghana before contesting the 2020 election.
Therefore, she is ineligible to serve as an MP in Ghana.
A Ghanaian citizen has sued her to have her seat stripped off her.
The case was heard today and the defendant denied the charge against her.
According to her, she is no longer in posession of an Ivorian passport.
The Sekondi High Court hearing the case ordered Fantana’s mom to produce proof of renunciation for inspection by the court.
The trial judge, Justice Dr Richard Osei Kyere ordered the MP to produce the documents for their authenticity to be verified to allow a pronouncement to be made on the validity of the case.
