Atwima Kwanwoma District Best Farmer Calls For Reduction Of Price Of Soya Beans

The Atwima Kwanwoma District’s celebration of the National Farmers Day was held at Kotwi with 45 years old Alfred Patrick Frempong emerging as the District Best Farmer.

Speaking to newsmen after receiving his award, Mr. Frempong commended the government for introducing policies that have boosted the production of maize.

“The availability of abundant maize on the local market has reduced the cost of feeding our poultry thus, saving poultry farmers a lot of money and we commend the government for it.” He said.

However, according to the district best farmer, what currently poses a big challenge to poultry farmers is the cost of ingredients imported to prepare poultry feed especially, soya beans. He therefore called on the government to do something about the cost of the key supplement as well as poultry drugs needed to keep the birds healthy.

The Atwima Kwanwoma DCE, Nana Okyere Tawiah commended farmers for being supportive of the government’s initiatives to ensure food security.

“The extent to which our farmers have embraced the Planting For Food And Jobs (PF&J) has been a key factor in sustaining the programme. “ He noted.

According to him the government will forever be grateful to farmers, “ because had it not been their efforts and commitment, the serious challenges the COVID- in its early days imposed on the country would have been unbearable, “but we prevailed because of you, the local farmers.”

Nana Okyere Tawiah who strayed into the realm of politics in his address to the farmers said the election should not be seen as a period where Ghanaians become enemies to themselves.

“We are one people. What is essential is for us to remain united despite our political affiliation or differences.” He remarked.

He assured residents of the District that enough street light bulbs have been procured which will soon be installed to brighten all the dark corners of the various towns at night to prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the night situation to wreck havoc on innocent persons.
