Ashanti Regional NADMO Director Refuses To Retire

The Ashanti Regional NADMO Director, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire has refused to proceed on retirement in line with the provision of Article 199 of the 1992 Constitution which prescribes a mandatory retirement at 60 for all public servants.

Nsenkyire, who also doubles as the Ashanti Regional First Vice chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) was due to go on retirement in March last year but he is still in office.

In March last year, Mr. Nsenkyire took a French leave and travelled to the United States without handing over to the Administrator, Mr. Attakora Kodua.

In the circumstance, the refusal of Nsenkyire to proceed on retirement is causing uneasy calm at the regional secretariat where the two deputy Regional Directors, Madam Margaret Owusu and Ernest Yaw Amoah are still taking directives from the retired director.

Confronted in his office, the NADMO Regional Director denied holding public office unlawfully claiming his services has been extended in a two-year contract as an acting Regional Director.

The Ashanti Regional Director refuted allegations that he is refused to hand over the administration or vacate the office as the Ashanti Regional Director having retired in March last year.

He admitted that though he has attained the retirement age, he is currently serving in an acting capacity as the Ashanti regional Director of the organization at the instance of the Office of the President, Vice President and the Chief of Staff under whose directives he was given the two years contract.

Mr. Nsenkyire claims he reports directly to the Office of the Vice President from where he derives his powers and authority, a situation which explains the current feud between him and his boss.

The embattled regional director upon enquiry has produced receipt of an Expedited Mail Service (EMS) of the Ghana Post from the Office of the Vice President addressed to him on February 4, 2021.

He also showed Mr. Nsenkyire in an attempt to provide evidence of source of his appointment as acting Regional director also produced a self-addressed envelope with the stamp of “Office of the Vice president” as proof of the contract and purported extension of service as the acting Regional Director of NADMO I the Ashanti region.

The office of the Director-General of NADMO has denied knowledge of any such extended contract for Nsenkyire and only he is abusing the provisions of the Constitution.
