The support vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is enjoying from the people of Ashanti region, can be equated to the tremendous support the region showed Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo before both men respectively rose to level of a President, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie has observed.
The Member of Parliament for Effiduase/ Asokore Constituency in an interview on Wontumi TV emphatically predicted that if the party should hold super delegates conference in the region today, vice President Bawumia is likely to secure 85% of the votes.
“Bawumia won’t get less than 85% in Ashanti region if we should hold a super delegate conference. If Ashanti region says it supports you, you will win but woe betide you if the region doesn’t support you”, he said as he declared Bawumia winner of the NPP’s presidential primaries.
He disclosed that one of the strategies Nana Akufo-Addo used before rising to President of Ghana was that he left his abode and relocated to Ashanti region because he knew he needed their support.
“Akufo-Addo left his home to come and stay here. But in Bawumia’s case, it is rather the region which is calling for him”, he pointed out.
He therefore stated that “I won’t be surprised if Bawumia launches his campaign in Ashanti region.”
