Asante Akim North MP To Appear Before Dutch Court In 48 Hours

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, is expected to appear before a court in the Netherlands within the next 48 hours after his arrest at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

According to a report by channelonenewsonline.com on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the embattled lawmaker, who was detained by authorities in the Netherlands over allegations of money laundering and involvement in romance scam-related offences, is expected to challenge his arrest.

The report further stated that the MP’s legal team will contest the legality of his detention before a court in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, as earlier reported by GhanaWeb on May 15, 2026, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, spoke publicly for the first time following his arrest.

In a viral video, Ghanaian media personality and musician Blakk Rasta played an excerpt of a conversation he had with the MP during his programme.

In the audio clip, OK Frimpong denied allegations that he was arrested over his alleged involvement in a romance scam.

According to him, the only offence Interpol mentioned at the time of his arrest was money laundering, insisting that reports linking him to romance scam activities are false.

He also dismissed claims that he was connected to $100 million and $35 million money-laundering schemes.

“When I was picked up, the only thing they told me was that I was being arrested for money laundering and nothing else. I have heard reports that I was involved in a $32 million money-laundering scheme, but I will not comment on that,” he said.

Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has stated that the MP’s legal team in Amsterdam has successfully gained access to the warrant, which was reportedly issued on April 26, 2026.

“The lawyers are just informing me that they have seen the warrant, and it was issued on April 26. So, even as a sovereign nation, I doubt whether we were informed in any way,” he said.
