
The President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has announced an Order of the Companion of the Volta award to the engineering regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces after they cleared 176.5 km of the Accra-Kumasi expressway ahead of schedule.
The clearing of the road is to make way for the 198.7km six lane highway linking the cities of Kumasi and Accra.
The President said the work of the Armed Forces was critical to the construction of the road, as he expressed gratitude to them for their work.
“We tasked the Ghana Armed Forces to commence work in clearing the road way. The task they were given was to complete this mission in 20 weeks. Our armed forces have accomplished this mission one week ahead of schedule, they did it in 19 weeks.
I wish to express the appreciation of a grateful nation to our Ghana Armed Forces especially the engineering core for this great accomplishment,” the President stated.
He said he had given instruction for the engineering regiment to be awarded in the next independence day.
“I have given instruction that at the next National Honours which shall mark the 70th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Ghana. The Engineers Regiment shall receive an Order of the Companion of the Volta,” he said.
