Amidst Rumours Of Guns Changing Hands, Chairman Wontumi Attempts to Intrude On A Mahama-Chaired Meeting In Kumasi.

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama who was on a campaign tour of Ashanti Region recently left a sour taste in the mouth for most residents.

Apart from the ghastly road accident on the Ejura road that left six NDC supporters who was attending his rally dead and several others fatally injured, he came to stir a lot of controversy.

One of such controversies was when somebody gave a tip off that that the former President had met some party members at the Royal Lamerta Hotel at Ahodwo in Kumasi during which weapons were being distributed.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Angtwi Boasiako A.K.A. Chairman Wontumi who was given the wind of the plot quickly made a detour as he was heading towards Tepa on a door to door campaign tour to rush to the hotel to pick intel.

An eyewitness said that Chairman Wontumi who was unarmed literally jumped off the moving vehicle in which he was been chauffeured to Tepa to try enter the Hotel premises but had to be restrained amidst through a fierce struggle.

“It took the might of about 10 people to hold him in check as everybody expected the outcome of his invading an NDC secret meeting place to be disastrous because of the presence of John Mahama’s heavily armed security detail and personal bodyguards.
“What would have happened in the secret meeting by the NDC leader and party members if Chairman Wontumi had succeeded to enter the meeting room fully parked with machomen and security personnel some of them armed to the teeth can be anybody’s guess.” Said a security man in Charman Wontumi team.

Some of media personnel who formed part of Chairman Wontumi’s entourage were frozen by the near drama.

“The brazen attempt by Chairman Wontumi whose tempers were high to intrude on the secret meeting of the NDC flagbearer, scared me to the marrow”. One reporter who wishes to remain anonymous disclosed to wountumionline.’

“I wasn’t the least enthused over what I saw and I even forgot that I had my mobile phone in hand to record the drama.” Another media person recalled.

Nonetheless matters did not get out of hand as the attempt to calm down Chairman Wontumi was somehow successful apart from the fact that, the secret meeting soon ended and a fleet of vehicles which formed part of John Mahama’s convoy were soon seen whisking away from the hotel premises followed by the security detail.

“In their tinted vehicles no one could see for real whether any of them was full of weapons. But at least it was an episode that played out the extent to which Chairman Wontumi is prepared even at the risk of losing his life in defending what is in the best interest of the party he so much loves and ever prepared to make a sacrifice to sustain it.” A party Member who was on the tour told wontumionline.com
