Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, a former deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, will not resign over the Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson ambulance saga.
He also asserted that President Akufo-Addo cannot reshuffle Godfred Dame.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Radio, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen emphasized the need for resilience in politics, suggesting that political leaders should not succumb to pressure from the opposition and the public.
He questioned whether members of Parliament who received double salaries have returned the funds.
Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen praised Godfred Dame for his role in preventing significant financial losses for the country.
He described the ongoing attacks on Godfred Dame by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a “do-or-die rehearsal” for the 2024 general elections.
He noted that the NDC even released a tape allegedly showing the Attorney General influencing a witness to implicate Ato Forson.
After reviewing the 16-minute leaked audio, the former NPP deputy general secretary expressed confidence that Godfred Dame did nothing wrong.
He criticized the NDC’s defense strategy, which included the leaked audio, arguing that recording conversations with someone who trusts you is unacceptable.
Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen contrasted this with how the NPP handles similar situations, focusing on individual accountability rather than involving the entire party.
He predicted disappointment for those orchestrating the meeting between Richard Jakpa and Godfred Dame and condemned the act of recording private conversations, stressing the need for sincerity in such matters.
“It’s quite unacceptable and unreasonable for someone to develop faith in you and record him during a conversation. We must be sincere to ourselves. It is not good,” Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen stated passionately.
