Allow The President To Give Us A Good MCE- Pankrono Market Leaders Appeal To Tafo Chief

Leaders at the Pankrono Community Market have appealed to the Chief of Tafo, Nana Agyen Frimpong Ababio to allow the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to use his own discretion to decide on who becomes the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Tafo Municipal Assembly in his second term of office.

Addressing a press conference early Monday morning, leader of the group, Madam Ahwenee Bodom noted that the President is fully aware of challenges he and the NPP suffered in the Tafo Constituency during the 2020 general elections.

Madam Ahwene3 Bodom, leader at the Pankrono market addressing the media on Monday.

This, she said, was because the NPP party suffered a reduction of about 4,000 votes in the 2020 general election as compared to what it garnered in the 2016 polls.

She said it is therefore wrong for the Chief of Tafo to call the media to express an opinion on who becomes the next MCE for Old Tafo.

‘’We the market leaders are very sure Nana Addo will give us a good leader as MCE who will be considerate about the plight of the needy and the unemployed in the community’’, the market leader stressed.

SATISFACTION:

Madam Bodom said the NPP party and market women at Pankrono were happy that eight (8) persons had applied for the position as MCE for the area.

This alone, she observed shows that people are not happy with what transpired when the incumbent, Fred Bonsu served as MCE and campaign coordinator for the constituency.

The leader also noted that many communities outside Tafo, which is the capital, stand the chance of seeing proper development when a new MCE is given to the Municipality.

Currently, she noted every development project goes to Tafo while a prominent town like Pankrono has nothing to boast about in terms of development.

‘’No chief or traditional leader should interfere with purely party matters since Otumfuo, the Asantehene, has cautioned against that because he feels the job of Chiefs in governance should be advisory’’, Madam Bodom stated.

APPEAL:

Akwasi Asare, a youth activist at Pankrono said the community needed employment avenues where the youth could gain access.

He appealed to the President to appoint a proactive person who could lead a transformational agenda in Tafo and Pankrono.
