The former minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, is shocked over reports of his intended alliance with the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, a former flagbearer of the latter.
Highly placed sources close to the multiple flag-bearer contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) told The Chronicle that the reports carried by the media cannot be true.
The Chronicle was told on Monday, September 18, 2023 that no discussion relative to Alan Kyerematen partnering with Ivor Greenstreet to contest the 2024 presidential elections has been initiated.
According to Alan’s camp, which is yet to respond to the claim officially, the report was propaganda aimed at causing disaffection between Alan Cash, as he is popularly known, and the ruling NPP.
The Chronicle did not obtain any response from the core team of Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, but a bird whispered into our ears that no such discussion had occurred from their side.
Ivor Kobina Greenstreet contested the 2020 presidential elections on the ticket of the CPP, but would not be vying for the party’s upcoming primaries.
FUTURE
It would be recalled that Alan, in the letter that announced his withdrawal from the November 4 NPP flag-bearer contest indicated that he would provide his next line of action concerning his political future, after consultation.
“In the next upcoming weeks, I will provide an indication of the role that I will play in the politics of Ghana after consultations with my family and other well-wishers, various stakeholders and interest groups,” he wrote in the statement.
The Chronicle was informed just yesterday that the said consultation was still ongoing, but no indication was given for the conclusion date.
IVOR GREENSTREET
Ivor Greenstreet, a lawyer, was first elected to lead the CPP in the 2016 general elections. He was re-elected to lead the party in the 2020 December 7 elections after polling 1364 votes against Bright Akwetey’s 597 and Divine Ayivor’s 171 votes at their presidential primary.
He is an avid swimmer, scuba diver and athlete, and a member of the Ghana National Rifle Association (GNRA).
He has represented Ghana’s Black Snipers abroad, being the first African to participate in an international para-shooting event.
Greenstreet adds to his resume as General Secretary of the Ghana Shooting Sports Federation.
The father of two, having contested as a parliamentary candidate in 1996 on the ticket of the CPP, had to withdraw due to the Great Alliance, an electoral alliance between the NPP and the People’s Convention Party (PCP) formed with the intention to defeat the then incumbent NDC, led by former President Jerry Rawlings.
ALAN KYEREMATEN
Alan Kyerematen, in 1990, was responsible for establishing and managing a leading business development programme in Ghana called EMPRETEC, sponsored by the United Nations and Barclays Bank Limited.
He participated in and managed a number of major private and public sector consulting assignments in Ghana, as a principal consultant between 1984 and 1990.
Prior to his appointment as minister, Alan Cash was Ghana’s ambassador to the United States of America during the first term of former President Kufuor.
Alan, the Trade and Industry Minister under the first and second terms of President Akufo-Addo, championed the flagship programme, One District, One Factory.
Under his tenure, the Akufo-Addo government rolled out the Ghana Automotive Development Policy as part of its transformational agenda.
The policy provides the necessary framework to establish assembly and manufacturing capacity in Ghana.
So far, Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan and others have set up plants and are assembling various models of vehicles for the Ghanaian and West African markets.
