Akufo-Addo Opens AfDB 45th Annual General Meeting In Accra
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday officially opened the 45th Annual General Meeting of the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) in Accra.
Some African Presidents present at the program were Tanzanian President, Madam Samia Suluhu, Mr Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique and Mr Azali Assoumani of Comoros.
In his address, Akufo- Addo lamented the numerous challenges that the COVID 19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukrane war have imposed on the global economy.
He recalled that he challenged the AfDB in a speech in 2021 to prioritize its activities.
Among the key issues he raised in the 2021 event were:
1. To work towards the debt action plan.
2. Collaborate and work with the IMF and the World Bank on the debt service suspension initiative and G20 common framework
3. Explore options and the strategies used for the Special Drawing Rights(SDR) to support Africa through the AfDB
4. Work with Other government institutions to promote the establishment of food security facility.
5. To promote African financial stability mechanism for bringing financial markets stability to Africa.
He called on the AfDA to expand its activities to bail out Africa from the current economic hardships.
