The Bono East Regional Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Boakye, has stated that it was the plan of John Mahama’s government to destroy Darko Farms.
The personal hatred the erstwhile Mahama government showed towards Darko farms, ended up affecting the hundreds who had been employed to work with farm.
Addressing the issue on Wontumi TV after President Akufo-Addo had visited the farm, David Boakye stated that through the President’s 1-District-1-Factory initiative, the operations of Darko Farms has been revamped.
Taking a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), David Boakye stated that “a government deliberately wanted to destroy the Darko Farms forgetting that it was going against others who were employed.”
He further commended President Akufo-Addo by noting that under his leadership, an industry like Kasapreko has expanded to the Kwadaso area under 1D1F.
As part of Government’s Industrial Transformation Agenda, being implemented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Darko Farms Company was identified as one of the distressed but potentially viable companies.
As a result, the company, in 2017, applied to be part of the flagship 1-District-1-Factory initiative, and. after a comprehensive review by the Technical Support Group of the Ministry, an amount of GH¢22.1 million was granted as a loan facility to the company by Ghana EXIM Bank.
