Following an indefinite industrial action by University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), the Bono Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party has weighed in and called on them to soften their stance with government.
Kwame Baffoe Abronye stated on the Nsempa Fie on Wontumi TV that the Akufo-Addo led government has been a listening one when it comes to addressing issues that affect the welfare of teachers.
Unlike the erstwhile Mahama government that was heartless towards teachers, Abronye firmly stated that President Akufo-Addo has been good to them.
He reminded the striking teachers that not long ago, John Mahama personally splashed GHC13million on his personally campaign when he had to address salary issues of teachers.
Abronye also added that even though Ghana and the world didn’t experience any pandemic close to COVID-19, Mahama still didn’t find it right to pay salaries of teacher unlike President Akufo-Addo is doing.
UTAG began an indefinite industrial action last Tuesday over poor conditions of service and the failure of the government to resolve long-standing grievances.
The NLC however says the action is irregular especially since the leadership of the association is still negotiating with the government over their demands.
The NLC secured a 10-day interlocutory injunction on the strike by UTAG.
