The Bono Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, has likened former President John Mahama to Idi Amin and Charles Taylor following Somalia’s rejection to his appointment as the African Union’s (AU) special envoy to help mediate its political impasse with Kenya.
Somalia argues that the former Head of State has “extensive links” with Kenya, and has written to AU Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat notifying him that Somalia will no longer support Mr. Mahama in his new role.
Somalia’s Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, Mohamed Abdirazak, says the Ghanaian ex-leader is closely associated with the leadership in Kenya.
He has therefore claimed that the AU did not thoroughly scrutinize Mr. Mahama’s background before appointing him to the role.
Reacting to the development on Wontumi TV’s Nsempa Fie show, Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye stated that “if the AU had gone to resurrect Idi Amin from the gave or given Charles Taylor that role, it would have made more sense…there is no way Somlia would have rejected Charles Taylor because they know who he is.”
