A/R: Robbers Kill 28-Year-Old Mobile Money Vendor At Ejisu

Masked armed robbers on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, around 7:30 pm shot dead a 28-year-old mobile money vendor, Owusu Adjei at Onwi electoral area in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The Assemblymember for the area, Isaac Aboagye Antwi, narrating the ordeal said the armed robbers who wore nose masks came to the vendor and pretended to be withdrawing money.

He said: “Around 7.30 pm, I wasn’t there but according to the eyewitness, they said they [the robbers] were two, they came to do mobile money [transactions] wearing nose masks; one of them was standing in front of the container.

“The other one went around the container, he went inside the container, so, the mobile money vendor told him to go out, and he was insistent but he refused and rather demanded the vendor’s bag containing money.

“The vendor refused and pushed the armed robber and then the other one who was standing in front of the container pulled the trigger.”

The robbers later bolted with an unspecified amount of money after shooting the MoMo vendor.

 

The Asante Regional Police command has arrested a suspect in connection to the killing of a mobile money vender at Ejisu Onwe .

The Public Relations officer for the Ashanti Regional Police Command ASP Godwin Ahyianyo  noted that the suspect is in police custody assisting investigation

ASP Ahyianyo urged residents in the region to remain calm as they police is doing all they can to safeguard the people in the region.

Meanwhile, Police at Kodie in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 40-year-old man at a checkpoint for unlawful firearm possession.

The suspect, an ex-convict identified as Martin Agyei was arrested at about 12:45 a.m on Thursday with one AK 47 assault rifle, two magazines loaded with 26 ammunition, one butcher knife and one locally manufactured pistol.

Other items found on him include three mobile phones, two pullovers, a pair of white glove, one power bank, two pairs of sandals, cash of ¢1050 as well as two Chinese Yuan and $1 notes.

The items were retrieved after police on a snap check duties at Kodie intercepted a Daewoo Matiz car with registration AS 880-16 driven by the suspect from Kumasi-Offinso direction.
