A/R: MTTD Boss Bemoans Over Surge In Road Accidents
The Motor Traffic & Transport Department (MTTD) Boss, Superintendent Emmanuel Adu Boahen has lamented bitterly about the rapid increase of road accidents in the Ashanti Region.
He said the MTTD headquarters has not reached their expectations as far as this year is concerned.
In an interview on Wontumi Radio and TV Morning Show, Supt. Adu Boahen insisted that globally, there is an expectation of 50% road safety situation.
But he was quick to add that, “we are in July 2021 but there has not been any reduction rather increment. And it is not encouraging at all.”
He revealed that drivers, cars and the poor road networks are the factors that lead to the numerous accidents.
Supt. Adu Boahen added that malfunction traffic lights and lack of road markings are all causing agents.
According to the MTTD Boss, investigations conducted indicate that over 90% of the accidents are caused by the drivers.
“Though most of the roads and the cars are dilapidated but the over speeding, wrong overtaking and careless driving contribute to the accidents.”
He said that most of the markings have faded.
