The Ministry of Education has welcomed a call by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference to review the Computerized School Selection and Placement System(CSSPS), after many students and parents massed up at resolution centres with various problems concerning their placements.
In a press statement signed by the Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, the Ministry said the review will focus comprehensively on ensuring accountability and transparency in the system with the broader goal of improving it.
“The review will examine the various components of the system, identify areas requiring improvement, strengthen transparency and accountability, and make recommendations to ensure that the CSSPS remains credible, efficient, fair and responsive to the needs of students, parents and schools,” the statement said.
It insisted the CSSPS, is based on merit downplaying claims of protocol adding the review will strengthen the already laid down guidelines to ensure equality and fairness.
“The Ministry wishes to emphasise that the CSSPS is fundamentally a merit-based system, with merit taking precedence over protocol in the placement of qualified candidates.
The objective is to ensure that placement decisions are guided by established criteria and that every qualified student is treated fairly within the approved placement framework.”
It said a technical working committee will be established to undertake the review.
“Following the conclusion of the current placement exercise, the Ministry will establish a Technical Working Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the placement process,” the statement stressed.
The Ministry encouraged parents or guardians with “credible evidence that an official of the Ministry, the Ghana Education Service, Computerized School Selection and Placement System secretariat,” to report the issue to the appropriate law enforcement body for investigation.
