Accra-Kumasi Expressway To Feature 8 Interchanges, CCTV Cameras, Tow Trucks – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has presented an overview of the components of the yet to be constructed Accra-Kumasi expressway saying the road will have eight interchanges and security cameras.

The President spoke at the official ceremony of the handover report of the expressway by the Ghana Armed Forces after they successfully completed the clearing of 176.5km of road in 19 weeks.

The work by the Armed Forces has cleared the way for the construction of the six lanes high way to begin. The construction of the expressway according to the President is supposed to be 198.7km.

In his speech the president said the recommended speed on the expressway will be 120km per hour. He said it will have three lanes where slow moving vehicles like big trucks will stay on the first lane.

“It will have three lanes, big trucks will stay in the outer lane, the small cars will use the second lane and then the third lane is called the fast lane which is called the inner lane,” he said.

The President said the expressway will pay for itself as it will have a dedicated account where no money will be borrowed for its construction.

He further stressed that the road will have two tall interchanges, “one on the Ashanti end, and one on the Greater Accra end. It will have eight interchanges, there will be four rest stops along the road.”

He talked tow trucks that will be stationed along the high way to tow vehicles that will break down on the road and CCTV cameras to watch over the road and ensure culprits of over speeding and other offences are fingered.

“There will be tow trucks along the road, so at all the service stops there will be tow trucks. If any truck breaks down on the road within minutes a tow trucks will be there to pull it off the road so that we prevent accidents from happening. There will also be CCTV cameras along the road,” the President explained.
