President John Dramani Mahama has called false, claims by a section of the public who say Ghana will adopt Arabic and Chinese languages into the educational curriculum.
The president emphasized no new policy was brought to parliament that the two languages will be added to the curriculum.
Assuring Ghanaians, he explicitly stated his role as the chair of cabinet and his position as the president of Ghana.
He said, “let me disabuse your minds, there is absolutely no new policy that says that Arabic and Chinese are going to be introduced in our school curricular. I chair cabinet and I can tell you no new curriculum has come for approval by cabinet.”
President Mahama stressed cabinet approves the curriculum, whether a curriculum needs revision or will be changed it has to be approved first.
He talked about the challenges of an Arabic- Chinese pursuit, assessing the difficulties the country has had in its learning of the french language. He said, learning the French language has been a difficulty for some years now.
“We are surrounded by French speaking countries, we are not even getting a handle on the teaching of French, why would we go and introduce Chinese. Where are we even going to get Chinese teachers. Even French teachers are hard to find,” he stated.
