The minority leader in Ghana’s Parliament Hon Alexander Afenyo-Markin has promised to work with the new majority leader, Hon James Agalga telling him he has a friend in him and he should expect nothing but cooperation.
The leader pledged his support when the outgoing majority leader Hon Mahama Ayariga handed over the baton of leadership to Hon James Agalga.
He told Hon Agalga to expect a friend in him saying he will be there to provide a different perspective on issues, becoming a third eye seeing things Agalga will not see.
“And I am saying that you can find in me a friend. My job is not to obstruct you. My job is to offer a different lens to things you may not see. So don’t be worried at all,” he said.
During the address, the leader acknowledged his support but added his primary goal is to turn his side, the minority into a majority adding he would be a diligent minority leader who will ensure the majority gets access to constructive opinions and debates.
“I can promise you a well researched dossier for all my debates. In any event, Mr. Speaker my job really is to turn this minority into majority,” he added.
He further advised Hon Agalga to not pay attention to groups in his caucus who are trying to sow divisions in the minority.
“As you come don’t attempt to infiltrate my back, a lot of people are causing turbulence all over the place, please don’t join that group”, the minority leader stated.
The new majority leader, Hon Agalga also promised Hon Afenyo he would work with him and the entire minority caucus, either through comprises or consultations.
“We can make compromises as and when necessary. And I assure you, I’ll give it to you. I would reach out, I would consult, but at the same time, I would work to ensure that the Reset Agenda of our President is accomplished for the betterment of all of us,” he said.
