Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has criticised the government’s handling of GoldBod’s operations, saying the amount lost in the recently reported losses could have completed several developmental projects in the region.
The MP, together with his caucus in Parliament, has been very critical of GoldBod’s operations since its inception, saying the government has sacrificed the nation’s growth for currency gains.
He made the assertion while speaking to Oheneba Asiedu on Wontumi TV’s morning show, where he said the Minority’s fears that the government had been pumping money into GoldBod’s operations simply to control foreign exchange (FX) gains have come true.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently reported that GoldBod has made significant losses amounting to GH¢22 billion. According to the former Information Minister, the money could have been used for several major developmental projects in the country.
He said Ghanaians will now have to bear the cost of the losses, adding that those who celebrated the FX gains will now have to carry the burden of the GH¢22 billion loss.
“Ghanaians will bear the cost of the losses. The money lost could have been used for major developmental projects in the Ashanti region. They have decided to use the money on propaganda, pumping money in for cedi gains,” he said.
