The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has announced the installation of enhanced new security screening equipments at the Accra International Airport in a move to relieve passengers of stress and promote efficiency.
In a statement released by management, the newly installed equipment will enhance “aviation security screening and passenger experience.”
What this upgrade means is that passengers will have to do with the old model where laptops and other accessories in their bags were removed before screenings were done.
The statement said: “Laptops and other large electronic devices can now remain in your cabin baggage during screening.
The statement also added that the newly installed equipments will no longer force passengers to remove certain accessories from their bodies while presenting themselves for screening.
Management said procesing will move at a faster pace because of a new return tray system that has been introduced.
“Unless otherwise required during security profiling, passengers may proceed through screening with footwear and belts on.
Passengers can now keep Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) in their cabin baggage during screening as separate screening of LAGs may not be required.
Kindly note that security regulations still prohibit LAGs that exceed 100ml in volume per container.
A new Automatic Tray Return System will quickly return trays to passengers for repacking of divested items,” the statement read.
The company said migration from the old system will be done in phases and requested for the cooperation of all passengers.
“Migration onto the new system will be done progressively or in phases and alongside the existing procedures and equipment.
Ghana Airports Company Limited kindly requests the cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders as we commence operations with the new equipment in the coming days,” the statement concluded.
