Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has dismissed suggestions that his wealth was acquired through politics, insisting that he was financially successful long before joining the party.
Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV, Wontumi said he had already been blessed with wealth before entering active politics, stressing that the NPP only increased his public profile rather than his financial standing.
“Before joining politics in Ghana, I was already blessed. NPP has really made me popular, but as for riches, by God’s grace, I was already blessed. I had about 50 cars even before joining politics, ” he said.
The outspoken politician recounted his humble beginnings in London, where he undertook several jobs in his quest for success. According to him, he worked as a cleaner, later became a bouncer, and eventually served as a personal bodyguard.
Wontumi revealed that he regularly worked up to 18 hours a day, a sacrifice he believes laid the foundation for his current achievements.
“I have really hustled. I’m not a lazy person. I really work hard. I don’t feel shy about honest labour,” he stated.
He maintained that hard work, persistence, and God’s blessings were responsible for his financial success, rejecting claims that politics was the source of his wealth.
Chairman Wontumi emphasized that his success story began long before he became involved in Ghanaian politics, arguing that his wealth should be attributed to years of dedication and sacrifice rather than political influence.
