5 Envoys Present Letters of Credence To President Akufo-Addo
Five new Envoys who have been accredited by their respective countries to Ghana have presented their letters of credence to President Akufo-Addo, marking the official commencement of their tour of duty in Ghana.
The Envoys are the Nigerien ambassador to Ghana, Her excellency Lamidosa Lamatou Bala Goga, Swedish ambassador to Ghana, his excellency Carl Michael Grans, his excellency Hadera Abera Admassu Ethiopian Ambassador to Ghana, Jamaican High Commissioner to Ghana, his excellency, Esmond Reid and the Russian ambassador to Ghana his excellency Sergei Berdnikov.
Nigerien Ambassador
First to present his credential was Nigerien ambassador to Ghana, Her excellency Lamidosa Lamatou Bala Goga. In his statement, he indicated that his President, has instructed him to work hard to deepen Ghana’s relations with Niger. Ambassador Bala Goga, congratulated President Akufo-Addo on his re-election as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and also on the election of Ghana as a non permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Ambassador of Ethiopian to Ghana
His excellency Hadera Abera Admassu, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Ghana, the second to present his letter to credence noted that during his time as Ambassador, he would like to focus on issues of security and how Ghana and Ethiopia can share intelligence to foster stability on the African continent. He added that with the coming into force of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), he will also dedicate his time to build strong trade relationships between Ethiopia and Ghana.
Russian Envoy
Third to present his letter of credence was Russian ambassador to Ghana, his excellency Sergei Berdnikov. In his statement, Ambassador Berdnikov noted that there is a lot of room available to both Ghana and Russia to deepen their relationship in areas such as Agriculture, Nuclear energy, among others. He added that it is his hope that during his tour of duty, same will be achieved.
Swedish Ambassador
Swedish ambassador to Ghana, his excellency, Carl Michael Grans, the fourth to present his credential noted that even though democracy around the world appears to be backsliding, Ghana continues to remain a stable democracy and same was demonstrated during the December 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The Swedish ambassador further indicated that Sweden during the period of his tour of duty, will seek to grow her trade relations with Ghana.
Jamaica
The last to present his letter of credence was the high commissioner of Jamaica to Ghana, his excellency Esmond Reid. In a brief statement, the Jamaican Envoy congratulated President Akufo-Addo on his re-election as President of the Republic. He said Ghana and Jamaica have a long standing rich history and cultural relations and it is his expectation that during his time as high commissioner, the relationship will be deepened.
President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo when he received the letters of credence from all five Envoys at the separate events, extended his congratulations to them on their appointed. The President noted that Ghana has indeed long standing relations with all their respective countries and it is his hope that these already existing relationships will be given a big boost during their respective tours of duty in Ghana.
He assured the Envoys that officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and the office of the President are readily available to assist them to make their stay successful and worthwhile.
