A 40-year-old Ghanaian man has been arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) for allegedly defrauding the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
According to SAPS in a statement issued on May 3, 2026, the Ghanaian national was arrested at O. R. Tambo International Airport on Friday, May 1, 2026, after he was flagged on the Movement Control System (MCS), which linked him to a SAPS Linden case.
Police further indicated that the suspect allegedly defrauded SARS by submitting fraudulent tax returns in 2017.
“It is alleged that the suspect defrauded SARS by submitting fraudulent tax returns during 2017. SARS suffered a loss of more than R350,000 due to the suspect’s illegal activities,” the statement said.
The statement also noted that the Gauteng Hawks Head, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, praised the investigating officer from the Johannesburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for outstanding work.
“The suspect is due to appear before the Palm Ridge Commercial Crime Court on Monday, May 4, 2026,” the statement added.
