A Senior Lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Mr. Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey, has questioned alleged plans by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to reintroduce the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), a policy originally introduced by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Mr. Ishaq raised concerns over the alleged policy shift.

“I think the NDC government complained bitterly about the E-Levy while they were in opposition, claiming the NPP was using it to scam and rob Ghanaians,” he said.

He added, “Why is it that the same NDC now wants to introduce it after coming to power? Are they not the same people who promised to cancel the E-Levy? Why would they bring it back again?”

Mr. Ishaq further argued that the government may be seeking to generate additional revenue to stabilize the cedi against the dollar, alleging that the country has lost billions of cedis.

“If you look at how the NDC condemned the E-Levy, I thought they would not even think about bringing it back again,” he added.
