3,000 Arabic Teachers To Be Engaged In The Phase 2
Of The Arabic Instructors Program- Bawumia
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that 3,000 Arabic Teachers are to be engaged in the Phase 2 of the Arabic Instructors Program which was suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The first phase of the program has ended, and as I speak now, approval has been given for the Secretariat to start with the Phase 2 of program, and Insha Allaah, in the coming days to weeks you will hear from us on the program,” he noted.
This was contained in a speech read on behalf of the Vice President by the Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda, Coordinator for Zongo and Inner Cities Development at the Office of the President.
He was speaking at the 77th Maulid Celebration of Prophet Muhammed under the theme “Education: Key to Development in fighting poverty”, at Aboabo in the Asawase Constituency.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the intended purpose of the program and why it is so important is that, as Muslims, Arabiyya is the language of communication between us and our creator.
He reiterated that the Arabic language is an important international language which can help in several functions, such as commerce and diplomacy.
Dr. Bawumia noted that he program is also intended to serve as an incentive for the youth to begin to learn the Arabic language.
“We are now at the point where we need to rapidly transform our country into a progressive, prosperous 21st Century nation that remains distinctly and uniquely Ghanaian. We believe that today’s youth running barefoot to school could be future leaders of business, industries and government,” he emphasized.
Background
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) under His Excellency John Agyekum Kuffuor introduced the Arabic Instructors Program, where Arabic teachers in our various Makaranta are paid some stipends in appreciation and
acknowledgement of their service to God and the country.
However this program went dead after 2008, but was reactivated by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government after we returned to power in 2017.
