GRA Confiscates 12,000 Cartons Of Unstamped Drinks From Importers

Officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have seized 12,000 cartons of drinks with no tax stamps from importers. This was made known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) when the Excise Unit of GRA embarked on a check operation at the GRA Customs Laboratory Facility at Airport City in Accra, where the confiscated products were stored. During the operation, GNA noted that some trucks were stocked with drinks without tax stamps while there were some with stamps on them. The Ghana cedi ended the first-half of this year with a better performance than the same period last year. According to Bloomberg, the cedi lost about 11.21% to the US dollar, yet was still classified among African currencies with ‘Worst Spot’ Returns’. On the interbank market, the Bank of Ghana put the year-to-date loss of the cedi to the dollar to about 20%. Presently, the Ghanaian currency is going for ¢11.68 to the dollar in the retail market.
