AMA Jails Five Food Vendors, Shuts Restaurant Over Food Safety

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in the last six months jailed five food vendors and closed down a restaurant for flouting food safety regulations. It also confiscated the items of 17 food vendors, Mrs Florence Kuukyi, Director, Metro Publlic Health Department, AMA, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA). She said some of the vendors sold expired food, ingredients and cooked in unclean places. Fuel Prices Expected To Go Up By 9.0% From August 1, 2023 – COPEC

Fuel prices are expected to go up from tomorrow August 1, 2023, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has disclosed. According to the Chamber, the prices of petrol and diesel are likely to increase averagely by about 9.0% over the current mean price of ¢11.90 per liter, whilst the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) goes up by about 20.0%. T-bills Auction: Government Records Marginal Oversubscription; Interest Rates Hit 30.30%

Government recorded a marginal oversubscription of treasury bills auction, as interest rates continued its upward trend on the money market. According to the auction result by the Bank of Ghana, the government got about ¢2.34 billion. The target for this auction was about ¢2.28 billion. ¢1.493 billion cedis were bids tendered for the 91-day bill. All the bids were subsequently accepted. The Bank of Ghana recorded a loss of ¢60.8 Billion Ghana cedis in 2022, its Annual Report and Financial Statements has revealed. The Central Bank’s record loss is coming after it posted a ¢1.2 billion profit in 2021. According to the Annual Report and Financial Statements, the loss is attributed to a decline in the Group’s net worth position due to the impact of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) and impairment of some assets. An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old scrap dealer for stealing a Renault gear box and its housing belonging to a driver. Mohammed Mansur also stole engine heads of Toyota Corolla S, and Renault air conditioner motor, all totaling GHS8,500.00. Charged with unlawful entry and stealing, Mansur pleaded guilty.
