The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has indicated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme is stop gap measure to help the country to come out from the prevailing economic challenges faster. According to him,the IMF program is only a stopgap measure and not a permanent solution to our economic problems. He averred that this is not the first time Ghana is seeking assistance from the IMF. This follows a directive by President Akufo-Addo to the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Friday to initiate discussion with the IMF for support. He explained the rationale behind the…

GSFP Probes Viral Video Purporting Sub-Standard Meals To Pupils

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has raised doubts about the connection of a viral video to any of its professionally trained caterers as it conducts further probe into the video. In the video, which is making rounds on social media, a faceless woman, perceived to be a caterer, is seen dishing out what appears to be a hot liquid substance – believed to be hot soup – to some school children who are served with a particular meal in their bowls suspected to be Eba, a common delicacy in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. Mahama’s Reasons for going to IMF are NOT the same as Akufo-Addo’s Reasons for going to IMF: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes

According to the public records, John Mahama's administration in 2015 sought IMF bailout largely because of: 1. Fiscal Indiscipline 2. Domestic economic crisis as a result of severe power shortages(DUMSOR) 3. Restoration of Investor confidence. Between 2015 and 2016 when Ghana went to the IMF under John Mahama's administration, there was nothing like COVID-19 or the Russia-Ukraine War. Fact is Fact. Mahama's inability to deal with the domestic economic crisis despite massive borrowing amidst the DUMSOR sent Ghana to IMF. However, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Akufo-Addo's Government is seeking IMF support largely because of the : 1.…

People Leading Ghana to IMF Can Still Break the 8: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes

Yes, it has not been an easy decision to take Ghana to the IMF, however, it is completely false for anyone to conclude that people in charge of NPP Government taking Ghana to IMF cannot break the 8 in 2024. Yes, we criticized John Mahama's administration for going to the IMF and certainly we are not running away from that fact. NPP promised itself never to go to the IMF for bailout…

Wickedness of NDC In Parliament Has Forced Akufo-Addo’s Government To Seek IMF: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes

Finally, the lack of cooperation and wickedness of NDC Members of Parliament under the influence of John Mahama is forcing Akufo-Addo's government with no option than to start engagement with the International Monetary Fund(IMF). Sincerely speaking, IMF was the last or never an option for the Akufo-Addo’s Government to deal with global impact of COVID-19 and Russia-Ukraine War. Akufo-Addo's Government did everything possible to adopt homegrown policies to safeguard the economy without IMF support but sadly here we are seeking IMF support due to the following reasons: 1. Failure of E-levy to meet the revenue mobilization targets of the Government.…
