2022 FIFA World Cup: Ghana In Pot 4 Ahead Of Group Stage Draw On Friday
The Black Stars of Ghathe na will be Pot 4 ahead of the group stage draw of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday, April 1.
The draw will be held in Doha at 16:00 GMT.
The procedures approved by the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions outline that the 28 already qualified teams will be allocated according to sporting principles to pots 1 to 4 based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking released on 31 March following the conclusion of the international match window.
As hosts, Qatar will take position A1 from Pot 1, where they will be joined by the seven highest-ranked qualified teams from the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.
The countries occupying positions 8-15 in the ranking of the qualified teams will be allocated to Pot 2, while the 16th-23rd best-ranked qualifiers will be placed in Pot 3.
Finally, Pot 4 will include the qualified teams in positions 24 to 28, plus three placeholders representing the two winners of the intercontinental play-offs and the remaining UEFA play-off winner.
Ghana is currently ranked 61st in the World. Black Stars secured qualification to the global showpiece on Tuesday in Abuja after a 1-1 draw with Nigeria in the reverse leg game to qualify on the away goals rule.
Ghana will be hoping for a favourable group after being handed a difficult one in their previous appearance. In Brazil 2014, they faced eventual winners Germany, Portugal, and the United States.
Ghana did not qualify for the 2018 edition staged in Russia after playing in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil respectively.
Ghana’s finest World Cup performance came in 2010 when the squad made it to the quarterfinals.
They will attempt to break that record in November when they travel to Qatar.
The 2022 World Cup gets underway in November this year.
